Health Care Provider Orientation:

MyTherapySession.com was founded and developed by Dr. Brent R. Coyle, a practicing board-certified psychiatrist. His desire, in creating this site, is to make emotional and psychological health care as pleasant and straight-forward as possible, both for the people under your care and also for you as the health care provider.

Dr. Coyle developed this site with the belief that the entire health care system could do better. He has been, and continues to be, disappointed in the quality and access that we as a system has been able to offer, in medicine and especially in psychiatry and mental health care. Not only do individuals have to wait far too long for care, but they then express frustration about the quality of their care when they finally are seen. He has long been convinced that the reason for this frustration has to do with patients not getting the meaningful information they need, as well as providers not having the necessary time to give it to them.

Psychoeducation is vital to treatment outcome:

As Dr. Coyle's practice began to grow, he became frustrated by clearly seeing what information was lacking, not being able to find the information delivered in the way he wanted it, and not having enough time to provide the information to his patients himself. Dr. Coyle recognized that his patients were starved for information that was current, easy to understand, yet substantial enough to make a real difference in their lives. He was particularly frustrated by the absence of a comprehensive source for that information, so, he accepted his own challenge to create such a source. It has certainly been a learning process for him, but, his patients have loved the results and have benefited a great deal from it. Our hope is that it can be helpful to you, also.

Assessment:

One of the most time consuming and repetitious things about emotional health care practice involves the need for careful assessment. Because assessment is the basis of the intervention, there is clearly a need to be comprehensive to avoid major risks. But, since time is so limited, we also want to quickly move on to helping instead of spending a large amount of time asking surface-level questions. The features of the MyTherapySession.com health assessment will lessen your clinical burden as the intake is done entirely by the patent.

Capture of dynamics of patient concern: The patients experience the MyTherapySession.com assessment as a highly visual and interactive interface. It is clinically-based with attention to the actual dynamics of patient distress instead of simply being a checklist of symptoms and dismissal to some pharmacological recommendation. When completed, a report is generated that provides personalized educational resource recommendations, based on the answers provided by the patient.

Complete and Concise versions: Two versions of the assessment are available, the "MyNeeds" Complete and the "MyNeeds" Concise. The "MyNeeds" (Complete) includes all elements needed for a comprehensive assessment, including information needed for hospitalization. The "MyNeeds" (Concise) is a briefer assessment, which helps direct the individual more quickly to care.

Psychoeducational Intervention:

Assessment is just the beginning and quick intervention is necessary when the individual's motivation is highest. While few things compare to video for capturing and holding the attention of an audience, it also requires writing, breaks and discussion, as well as practice to truly effect change. MyTherapySession.com provides these psychoeducational videos, with accompanying note-taking options for patients to better absorb the material, for a wide range and ever-growing set of psycho-social issues.

MyTherapySession.com is for use in therapy:

The MyTherapySession.com video programs are organized by short segments of information, with regular breaks (stops) to allow your patient to think about, discuss, and react to the material. The presentations are designed for use in the context of a therapeutic relationship and offer structure and efficacy for the most difficult of clinical problems. Safety and frame issues are particularly important in clinical practice, and video presentations are intuitively helpful for the delivery of these frequent and vital components of any clinical practice. The presentations also greatly enhance your ability to patently repeat concepts until they are understood and applied.

Outcome Measures:

As health care providers, we are continuously asked to objectively rate what we have done. MyTherapySession.com makes available and offers a variety of outcome measures for your use.

Suggested Starting Place:
A common starting place is the presentation that offers a systematic development of Self-Esteem and Goal Setting, using an enhanced version of the Transtheoretical Model of Change and concepts in motivational interviewing. Of course, many other options exist, too. (Whichever topic you ultimately begin with, we recommend your patient download, print, and use the free accompanying journal, which is available on each individual topic page or by clicking here.)
